Home Refresher Ideas to Make Staying Home More Appealing

As the pandemic carries on, you may be starting to feel as though you and your home have spent a little too much time together. Especially if you’ve had to quarantine or self-isolate due to your health, work, or at-risk loved ones, spending time at home can begin to lose the appeal it once had. Hopefully soon, you will be able to look forward to taking more trips and excursions, but in the meantime, while you’re at home more than usual, why not go ahead and do an indoor and outdoor makeover? Giving your home and landscaping a fresh new look and feel makes staying in relaxing and pleasurable again.

Easy do-it-yourself home updates.

Sometimes you can make a big difference to the comfort and aesthetic of your home by making changes that are relatively easy and affordable. This could involve simple refreshers such as making changes to your window curtain style, putting fresh covers on your chairs, or replacing outdated furnishings with newer, more attractive items. It could mean adding accent pieces such as wall art. Or you may opt to go a little further and plan a do-it-yourself renovation project such as fresh paint on your walls and trim, or stylish new hardware and fixtures. It can even make a difference to do a decluttering and deep cleaning.

If you’re thinking about making some bigger renovations.

A pandemic may not be the ideal time for making major alterations to your home, especially if the cost of building remains high, but if there are bigger changes that need to be made for the sake of you and your family’s well being and quality of life, make sure you hire reliable professional contractors to oversee these projects for you, so you can finish them quickly and safely. Some home renovations that may require the assistance of construction professionals include roofing repair, foundation repair, bathroom or kitchen remodels, and putting an addition on your home. Changes that give you more room to move, and make home tasks easier to perform, can really pay off in the long run, as they not only make your house more aesthetically appealing, but they can also correlate with reduced stress and better energy.

Consider improving the health of your home.

If you’ve been at home a lot more than normal, in the past year or so, you’ve probably become uncomfortably aware of any health issues that might be associated with it. Some common issues that make houses “sick” include ventilation problems, mold and mildew infestation, lead-based paint, and asbestos. These problems need to be addressed as quickly as possible, since they can have severe implications for your physical well-being – something you really do not want to have hanging over your head, during a pandemic!

Don’t forget the outdoors.

Even if you have just a little outdoor space, you want it to be as beautiful and inviting as possible, to give you an added reason to get out of your house and get fresh air, and maybe even be more active. For small patio spaces, see how creative you can get with containers and vertical gardening. If you have a larger space and are thinking about putting in some gardens, you may want to consult a landscape architect about how to balance aesthetics with utility. Or use online landscape design services to get a 3D model that will help you visualize how your lawn and gardens will look, with a proposed design.

It’s probably inevitable that you’ll get somewhat stir-crazy from time to time, but your home shouldn’t be a place where you feel trapped or helpless. Doing home refreshers and renovations will not only make your house a happier place to stay, but it will also give you a sense of empowerment.
